A 33-year-old man who raped a woman in her home has been jailed for four years and ten months.
Shaun Leatherland of Burton Road, Littleover, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday, August 1 after pleading guilty to rape.
Leatherland was also placed indefinitely on the Sexual Offenders Register.
The offence took place in Oakwood on Sunday, May 25. Leatherland also pleaded guilty to common assault and criminal damage.
DC Rebecca Wilde, who investigated the offence, said: “That this man is now in prison is thanks to the tremendous bravery of his victim in coming forward and opening up about her ordeal.
“She can now move forward with her life safe in the knowledge that her attacker is behind bars.
“I hope results like this give other victims of sexual offences the strength and confidence to come forward and talk to police.”
