Harry Young – of Scotstoun, Glasgow

TWISTED ex-enforcer for gangster Paul Ferris was jailed today for abusing young girls.

Harry Young, 67, was found guilty earlier this month of using lewd and libidinous practices towards the girls, then aged between five and eight, at addresses in Larbert, Stirlingshire in 2004 to 2006.

Harry young was caged for two years for abusing the young girls

The younger of the two girls, giving evidence by CCTV link, recalled that the once-feared Young had come into her bedroom when she was five or six and picked up her Barbie-type doll.

He removed the doll’s top, exposing its plastic breasts, then put them in his mouth and began to lick them. Then he put his hands down the young girl’s shorts.

Her sister said that when she was aged six to eight, Young, who had come in drunk from a Celtic night, fell downstairs and banged his head, then asked for a cuddle on the sofa.

There he put a cover over her and sexually touched her underneath it.

For legal reasons the girls, now aged 17 and 19, cannot be identified.

He reappeared for sentence at Stirling Sheriff Court today.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson jailed him for two years, with an extension period of three years, during which he will be under supervision and can be recalled to jail if he re-offends, and ordered that his name should be kept on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Sheriff Robertson told him: “I am concerned to ensure that the public is protected from serious harm from you when you are eventually released.”

At the end of a four-day trial, the jury had taken just 20 minutes to find Young guilty.

The court heard that the girls’ mother, now a 38-year-old carer, had been a friend of Young’s at the time, and frequently shared a bed with him, but the relationship had never been sexually consummated because “Harry had issues”.

She said that during a holiday to Salou, Spain, when the girls were young, twisted Young had accused her of having an incestuous relationship with her own younger brother – just because she had let him into the bathroom to be sick after he had drunk too much, while she concealed her modesty behind the shower curtain.

She said to Young: “How would you like it if I said that to you about you and the girls?”

Young replied that the older girl was “easy”, adding that the younger one “was the hard one”.

But the girls did not disclose what had happened until years later.

Young, of Scotstoun, Glasgow, denied the charges, but did not give evidence.

Defence agent Alastair Ross said Young was now “retired”, living alone in a housing association property, and “dependent on a State pension”.

Mr Ross said: “He has been something of a recluse in recent times.

“He accepts he has been found guilty, but he maintains he has no recollection of the commission of these offences.”

The court heard that Young had no previous sexual offending record, but a history of violence, including a conviction at the High Court in 1999 for assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement, when he was jailed for six years.

He was released halfway through his sentence but was arrested over an alleged firearm offence and sent back to jail.

Young was once a close associate of Ferris and was the official face of Premier Security Services (Scotland) Ltd, who crashed in 1997 over their £300,000 unpaid tax bill.

He then helped to form a new firm with a similar name, Premier Contract Security, which collapsed when Ferris was jailed for gunrunning in 1998.

Young was banned from being a director for seven years by the Department of Trade and industry in 1999 for offences against the public interest.

He then re-emerged as an “employee” at the now dissolved Frontline Security Group Ltd, which was closely linked to Ferris.

Young showed no emotion when the sentence was announced.

Sheriff Robertson told a security guard: “Take him away.”
