Ricky Caunt – of Abbey Bridge, Lenton

COURT: Man jailed for “horrifying” attack on woman

A man who hit a woman 30 to 40 times with a belt in a horrific attack has been jailed for 16 months.

Ricky Caunt, 44, of Abbey Bridge, Lenton, continued attacking the woman despite her screaming in pain and pleading with him to stop, the court heard.

The victim had extensive bruising from head to toe and was unable to see out of one eye because it was so badly bruised and swollen.

He also made her stand in front of the mirror and look at the injuries he had caused after the incident at his home on 19 May 2017.

On the following day he sent her numerous text massages apologising saying “I was out of control”, “what I did was wrong,” and “I take full responsibility.”

Caunt admitted assault causing actual bodily harm when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court. As well as the prison sentence he received today (Friday 11 August), he was made the subject of a restraining order, banning him from contacting the woman indefinitely. A charge of false imprisonment was discontinued.

Temporary Detective Constable Hannah Frame, of Nottinghamshire Police, said it was a prolonged and unprovoked violent attack in which he subjected her to “truly horrifying and inhumane physical and emotional abuse.”

She added: “The victim in this case was extremely brave to come forward in what is a very sensitive case which could have had devastating consequences.

“Nottinghamshire Police is committed to supporting victims and to bringing predatory offenders, such as this, to justice.”
