Abuser Terrence McAdam’s ex tells how he terrorised her in own home.
Benwell mum tells how pervert who groomed and raped a schoolgirl also attacked her
The ex girlfriend of vile pervert Terrence McAdam has today claimed he attacked her too.
Julie Magneron says she can now finally stop living in fear after reading in the Chronicle that her former boyfriend had been locked up for raping a schoolgirl.
But learning sickening details of how McAdam groomed his young victim with promises and flattery before threatening her with extreme violence when she ended their ‘relationship’, brought back horrifying memories to the mum, who says she was also raped and beaten by the fiend.
And today as she attempts to put her ordeal behind her, Julie has told the Chronicle how she feels lucky to be alive.
The 45 year-old said: “I just feel sick that I have shared a bed with someone like that. He’s definitely in the right place now he’s in jail. I was always looking over my shoulder, but I can get on with my life now. I feel really lucky that I got rid of him when I did. I could have been dead.”
Julie, from Benwell, Newcastle, met McAdam when she was on a bus travelling home from the city centre.
The pair began chatting and started meeting up after exchanging details.
“I met him on the bus. I was with my daughter. We were eating Kit Kats and he asked for one, the cheeky git!” she explained. “He looked a tramp but he seemed alright. He said he wasn’t homeless but he was a beggar in the town. He was with his mate at the time and they were sharing Valium.”
Julie, who has waived her legal right to anonymity, said McAdam treated her well in the early days of their relationship.
But just two weeks later she saw his true colours during a night out in the town.
“We were having a drink then he went outside to where the toilets were. When he came back in he looked different,” she said. “I thought maybe he had met his friend and taken something. He started saying I was looking at other men.”
Julie says McAdam’s jealous accusations continued when the pair left the city centre to go back to her house. And when they got home his temper worsened after Julie received a text message from a friend. She claims he then forced her to swallow a Viagra pill and then raped her.
“When we were getting in the taxi he punched us,” she said. “When we got home I said he could stay the night. Then somebody had text us and he thought I had a gadgie on the go.
“He just got jealous and violent. He shoved Viagra in my mouth. I said ‘what’s that? I don’t take drugs’. He said it would ‘help us’. And that’s when he raped us.”
Julie said she woke up feeling sick and terrified the following morning and just tried to get her alleged attacker out the house as quick as possible.
“On the Sunday morning before he went home he said ‘will you text us?’ But when he got home I told him I didn’t want to see him again and I rang the police,” she said. “I was ill for days from the Viagra, and I was just really shaken.”
McAdam was arrested on suspicion of rape and an investigation was launched by Northumbria Police.
However, the charge was not pursued after the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was not enough evidence.
He was instead charged with witness intimidation and following his conviction at Newcastle Magistrates Court McAdam was given a two-year restraining order banning him from contacting Julie.
In the weeks and months following the alleged attack Julie says she was terrified of bumping in to McAdam, who lived just streets away from her.
But last week a friend let her know McAdam had been in the Chronicle and was now in jail.
We reported how Newcastle Crown Court heard that the predator targeted a schoolgirl after bumping into her at Eldon Square, 10 years ago.
After apologising for the accidental contact between them, McAdam, then 34, struck up a conversation with the 15-year-old and gave her his phone number.
McAdam then set about grooming and flattering the girl promising to “treat her like a princess” and “wine and dine” her.
Eventually she agreed to meet him and the vulnerable victim began to consider the older man to be her boyfriend. He had sex with her numerous times in various public places, including; bushes, public toilets, fast food restaurants, behind churches and in dark doorways. McAdam also raped her on one occasion, in a tent, leaving her screaming and crying.
The girl’s concerned mum contacted police at the time, but no action was taken with officers brushing the complaints off because the girl was “already sexually active”.
Within a few months the girl ended the ‘relationship’. And McAdam responded by threatening to throw acid at her and saying she may have contracted HIV from him, the court heard.
Dad-of-three McAdam, now 45, who had been living in Denton Burn, Newcastle, was found guilty after a trial of rape, sexual activity with a child and supplying the victim and her friend with amphetamine.
He was jailed for 10 and a half years and told he must sign the sex offenders’ register for life and was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
The court heard he has 53 previous convictions but none for sexual offences.
Julie only became aware of her ex’s past when the story of his sentencing appeared in the Chronicle, and she was horrified.
“My friend sent me a message on Facebook with the story. It was a horrible shock. I just feel so sorry for that lass,” she said. “He got away with it with me, but at least I know he is behind bars now.”
