Teenager Jacob Powell guilty of sex attack.
A TEENAGER has been told to expect jail after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls.
Jacob David Powell, formerly of Green Lane but now of Millgate in Selby, was found guilty by a jury at York Crown Court.
He had been charged with sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl on November 25 last year and a second charge of sexual activity with a different girl, which related to a period between March 2006 and March 2008 – at the time, his victim was aged between 13 and 14 and he was under 18.
The jury heard Powell, now 19, had attacked the first girl when she got into his car to talk about a mutual friend. Powell locked the doors and assaulted her. The girl, who cannot be named, later told the court she was “scared and I didn’t know what to do”.
He later sent her a message via Facebook which read: “I am so, so sorry. I am heartbroken for what I’ve done to you. I don’t know why I did it. I know I was wrong and I’m sorry. Please write back I am sorry. Write back to let me know you are okay.”
The second charge related to a girl who was staying over at his home. When they were alone, he sexually assaulted her.
On Monday, a jury unanimously found him guilty of both charges.
Powell was granted bail until October 15 at Bradford Crown Court to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
But Judge Robert Bartfield told Powell, who showed no emotion as the verdicts were read out, that prison was almost unavoidable.
Judge Bartfield said: “From here on you are a convicted sex offender and you will need to register your details at the police station.
“I’m going to allow you bail until October 15 but the fact that I’m allowing you bail should not lead you to think there will be anything other than a custodial sentence.
“I can’t see any way out of a custodial sentence as it’s a serious matter as you know.”
Powell will also have to sign the sex offenders’ register.
