A serial sexual predator that believed he was grooming a 12-year-old girl for sex has been jailed.

Eight counts of inciting a child under 13 to perform a sex act

One count of attempting to meet a child under 16 for sexual activity
The court was told that in February this year, Hargreaves contacted a decoy from online child protection team the ‘Hunted One’
He believed he was talking to a 12-year-old girl
Hargreaves quickly turned the conversation sexual. Explicit remarks were made which encouraged the ‘girl’ to play with herself and to introduce her friend
After four months of contact and hundreds of messages were exchanged, Hargreaves organised to meet up. When he arrived, he was met by the ‘Hunted One’ who called the police who arrested him
Whilst on bail, Hargreaves continued to look for girls online, and was caught again attempting to groom a 14-year-old girl for sex.
Hargreaves admitted that in the past he had groomed numerous ‘real children’ online.
Hargreaves was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment
The judge told him that he must register as a sex offender for 10-years
