Naval Cadet Corps petty officer Alexander Johnston jailed for sexual activity with underage girls.
A PETTY officer in the Naval Cadet Corps in Leighton Buzzard was jailed for four and half years yesterday (June 13) after he admitted sexual activity with two underage girls.
Alexander Johnston, from Bletchley was told at Luton Crown Court he had set out to groom the youngsters.
Prosecutor Simon Wilshire told the court today that Johnston had developed a sexual interest in the two teenagers during the the summer of 2013 and made sexual advances towards them.
He flattered one girl and persuaded her to engage in intimate sexual acts while out together in Leighton Buzzard and in Milton Keynes.
He is also alleged to have kissed the second girl on a trip to Belgium and then again in Mentmore Park in Linslade, Leighton Buzzard.
Johnston, now 30, of Ennerdale Close, Bletchley, pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual activity with a child concerning one of the girls and two charges of sexual activity with a child involving the second girl.
At the time Johnston had been 26 and both the youngsters he targeted were 15 years old.
The court was told it was in the August of 2013 that he had stated making inappropriate overtures to the girls telling one girl her bottom looked good in shorts.
Johnston met up with the youngster in Leighton Buzzard and during a walk with her beside a river kissed her and then fondled her under her clothing and exposed himself.
Again in August of 2013 the pair met again, this time in a park in Leighton Buzzard, when the defendant took her to a quiet spot and again groped her before engaging in sexual acts.
Mr Wilshire said the defendant and girl sent each other provocative photos of themselves to one another.
In their final encounter in Milton Keynes the court heard Johnston had masturbated himself once more in front of the youngster at an address in Milton Keynes.
Judge Lynn Tayton hearing the case was told the youngster subsequently reported the matter to an adult who in turn informed his commander in the Naval Cadet Corp.
The prosecutor said that led the defendant to making contact with the girl once more and telling her how his life would be ruined if she persisted with the complaint
Johnston said he would pay the youngster £50 a month if she withdrew her allegations which the prosecutor said was ‘hush money’.
The court was told the girl did indeed retract her allegation, saying she had made them up, but eventually in September 2015 she told her mother the truth and this time the police became involved.
The prosecutor said as a result a second girl was traced by officers who told them how the defendant had kissed her.
She said he had also asked her for naked pictures which she had not sent.
Luckily, the court heard her mother had found messages sent by Johnston on her daughter’s phone and demanded she stop having anything to do with him.
Judge Tayton jailed Johnston for a total of four and half years and ordered his name be added to the sex offenders register.
In addition he was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order and restraint order that prevents him from contacting the two girls
She told him: “You do present a risk of serious harm to teenage girls.”
