Mohammed Kabeer Malik – Girlington, Bradford

Mohammed Kabeer Malik, 23, of Girlington, Bradford, jailed for eight years for raping ‘vulnerable’ schoolgirl.

A RAPIST who drove a teenage girl to a secluded location before attacking her in the back of his car has been jailed for eight years.

A judge yesterday described Mohammed Kabeer Malik’s expressions of remorse as “unconvincing” and he noted that the 23-year-old’s guilty plea had only been offered after there was a DNA match to semen found on the teenager’s jacket.

The 15-year-old complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had to go through an identification procedure following Malik’s denials in earlier police interviews and she had also spent weeks and months wondering whether she would have to give evidence at his trial.

But yesterday Malik, of Agar Street, Girlington, Bradford, admitted charges of oral rape and sexual assault when he appeared from custody before Judge Neil Davey QC at the city’s crown court.

Prosecutor Stephen Wood said Malik, who had previous convictions for violence, sexually assaulted the girl in his car when he kept placing her hand on his penis.

On a later occasion Malik said he needed to speak to her really badly, but after picking her up at about midnight he drove to a car park off Cemetery Road.

Mr Wood said the teenager believed that the car was locked when Malik climbed into the back seat and started kissing her.

After committing the oral rape offence Malik jumped back into the driver’s seat and took the girl home.

Malik was arrested in January after the girl told a teacher what had happened, but he denied even knowing the teenager and said there had been no sexual activity.

Although Judge Davey decided he did not have the evidence to conclude it was a “grooming” case he added: “She was defenceless against you once you had her trapped in your vehicle.

“In those circumstances I am satisfied she was particularly vulnerable due to her personal circumstances.”

The judge noted that Malik was a fit, young man who would have been stronger than the complainant.

In mitigation, barrister Jeremy Hill-Baker, for Malik, said the defendant was deeply ashamed of what had happened.

Malik was sentenced to seven years in jail for the oral rape offence with an additional 12 months in prison for the earlier sexual assault on the teenager.

Judge Davey imposed an indefinite restraining order which bans Malik from contacting the complainant again and he must also register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life.

The judge also imposed a lifelong sexual harm prevention order which bans Malik from having unsupervised contact with under 16s.
