‘Abhorrent’ smirking child rapist jailed for life after admitting 21 sexual offences during time in Kent

A child rapist has been jailed for life after admitting 21 sexual offences committed while he lived in Kent.
Shaun Sharp, 57, formerly of Lydd on the Romney Marsh, abused children for a decade from the mid-1990s.
He later moved to Poole in Dorset and was arrested at his home in Douglas Close on February 4, 2014 after his offending came to light.
Sharp was sentenced to life imprisonment when he appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Wednesday this week, and must serve a minimum of 10-and-a-half years before being considered for parole.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Paris Cook said: “The offences committed by Shaun Sharp were abhorrent and will linger long in the memories of those he abused.
“He showed a complete disregard for their welfare and clearly poses a significant risk to children. Prison is the best place for him.
“The victims in this case have quite rightly been applauded for having the courage to speak up and report Sharp’s crimes.
“They are an inspiration to other victims of historic sexual abuse and have helped send a strong message that time is no barrier for such offences to be investigated.”
