A teacher at a Chelmsford secondary school accused of sexually assaulting a boy under the age of eight is set to appear in court on Monday.
Craig Keane, who has been suspended from teaching design and technology at The Sandon School in Molrams Lane, faced one charge of sexual assault and one charge of intentionally sexually touching, both relating to the same victim, at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Friday (January 27).
He didn’t enter pleas during the original court appearance.
Keane, 28, who lives in Wickford, also volunteers for the Metropolitan Special Constabulary (MSC).
The charges do not relate an alleged incident at the school or involve any student involved with the school.
Head teacher Jo Wincott said in a statement: “We can confirm that Mr Keane was suspended in October 2016, immediately after Mr Keane’s arrest.
“Mr Keane has not subsequently attended school. The school has worked with the Metropolitan Police throughout their investigations and will continue to do so.

“None of the allegations have any connection with The Sandon School or its students. It would not be fair for the school to provide further comment regarding the allegations at this time.
“We take safeguarding extremely seriously and have appropriate and robust policies and procedures in place.”
Keane will appear for a plea hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday (February 20).
