Christopher Thompson, 26, was “prolific” in contacting children online for sex in 7,000 messages – and discussed his sick wishes with convicted paedophile Aaron Hughes

Soldier jailed for 27 years after paying paedophile £50 to film himself raping young boy

Christopher Thompson, 26, discussed his sick wishes with convicted paedophile Aaron Hughes – who is now serving a life sentence himself.

At Thompsons’s trial it emerged he targeted young children via social media.

Moreover, it heard he was “prolific” in contacting children online for sex in 7,000 messages.

The court also heard that in warped online chats, the disgraced soldier paid Hughes £50 to rape a young boy – and film it.

Hughes, who is from Wales, later sent him video files showing the brutal attack on a very young child.

Serving soldier Thompson – originally from Darlington – replied: “Wow.”

At Teesside Crown Court, Thompson was jailed for 27 years and eight months today.

Aaron Hughes – who is now serving a life sentence – sent Thompson video files of the rape

He admitted 12 charges of sexual activity with a child, sexual activity in the presence of a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual activity, attempting to arrange a child sex offence and making and distributing indecent photographs of children.

During his trial it emerged that he had been “prolific” in contacting children online for sex in 7,000 messages.

An employee from the company spotted his indecent exchanges and alerted US police.

The victim was traced to Greater Manchester and Thompson identified as the offender.

Prosecutor Paul Cleasby told Teesside Crown Court how Thompson:

Sent sexually explicit pictures and videos of himself, asked victims to do the same and asked to watch them carry out sex acts over a webcam

Suggested sex in hotels, camping or in his car as he arranged to meet them, willing to travel long distances to do so

Offered to pay for sex with children in cash, trips to the cinema or presents

Said he was interested in children aged “0 to 17” and asked for images of babies

Befriended a teenage Teesside boy on a dating site for gay men, then took him to woodland in East Cleveland for sex in his car

Groomed and manipulated another underage boy, calling him “hot stuff” in messages from his army quarters in Scotland

Distributed 43 indecent images of children to 10 other paedophiles on the internet, with 792 such pictures found on his phone and computers, some of children as young as four, some depicting rape

Followed a young boy playing on a scooter, bought him cigarettes and took him to a garage where he exposed himself and carried out a sex act.

His father and others later chased Thompson and pulled him from train tracks to face police as he shouted: “I shouldn’t have done it. I’m sorry. I’d rather kill myself.”

Parents of the victims told of their horror in statements to the court.

One mother said: “I find it difficult to believe an adult would stoop so low.”

Brendan Carville, defending, said Thompson committed the crimes because of deep-rooted issues from his own childhood experience.

He said Thompson was an educated man of previous good character and had served his country with an “exemplary” Army record.

Judge Howard Crowson said the “chilling” communications leading to the filmed rape of a vulnerable child for money were the most serious in Thompson’s catalogue of crimes.

He told Thompson: “This offence was committed at your request, for your pleasure.

Thompson was jailed for a total of 27 years and eight months, plus an extended five-year licence period.

The Parole Board will consider whether it will be safe to release him during his sentence.

Thompson – whose address was recorded in court as Holme House Prison, Stockton – was also given a sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders’ register, both for life.
